Thanks for the letter.
So, why’s the sky blue, eh? Well, it’s actually quite simple. Nobody, and I mean nobody knows exactly why.
But there are a few good theories.
One theory: the smurfs did it.
I like this because the smurfs are, of course, blue, and are known for their hijinks.
Could you just see them taking a hot air balloon to the sky and painting it to smurf-ify it?
The other possibility I like is that the blue M&M’s did it.
You may not know/remember this, but blue M&M’s haven’t been on the scene for very long.
My good buddy, Wikipedia, suggests that M&M’s introduced the blue ones in 1995.
Seeing as they were new, they had to find a way to get their hue noticed. And then, for “some reason,” the sky turned blue.
I don’t think I’m sea-gullible enough to believe that!
Now, some people suggest that the sky was blue before 1995. I don’t know. I was there, sure, but I can’t specifically remember looking at the sky before 1995 – when I looked up in happiness after tasting one of the blue M&M’s and noticing the similarity between the shade of sky and the candy coated chocolate I had just imbibed.
I’ll have to take their word for it that it was always blue. But I don’t want to. So there.
Until next time… keep it factual out there!
